All Pages/Menu Bar

From ScoutManage

Jump to: navigation, search

All of the functions of ScoutManage are available from the menu bar. The menu bar is the brown strip at the top of the page, under the Current Member/Scout line. It reads “Home Scout … Other Store” across the bar. Each of these are links to all of the various features provided by ScoutManage. Which options appear will vary depending on the permissions your particular user account has been granted by your unit leadership, and if/what the currently selected member/scout is set to.

So if we discuss a menu option that is not present, that probably means that your unit leadership has not granted you access to that feature or it is not available in the context of the current member/scout.

At any point in time, you can click the [Home] button. This will always bring you back to the family home page. If you get lost, clicking this will bring you back to somewhere familiar.

The meaning of each top-level menu is described below:

  • [Scout]. This menu contains a list of all scouts and leaders that are assigned to your user account. This should be the entire list of leaders and scouts within your family that are members of this unit. If you are a den/patrol leader, this list should contain a list of all scouts in your den/patrol If this list is empty, or does not contain the correct list of leaders/scouts, please contact your unit’s ScoutManage Administrator to have it setup correctly.
Selecting a scout from this list will bring you to the Scout Profile Page for that scout (see below) and will automatically make that scout the “Current Member/Scout”, which will be reflected in the corresponding line near the top of the page.
  • [Den] or [Patrol] This menu will contain commands that apply to a specific den or patrol (which word appears depends on whether your unit is a Cub Scout Pack or Boy Scout Troop). This menu will give you access to the calendar of events and the roster for the particular den/patrol selected. For den/patrol leaders, more options for entering awards, activities, and other information for your den/patrol will also be present.
The specific den/patrol that is used is the den/patrol for the “Current Member/Scout”. If you wish to change to get information about a different den/patrol, then first select a scout that is a member of the desired den/patrol. You can always see what den/patrol a scout belongs to from the “Current Member/Scout:” line above the menu. If a scout is selected that is not in a den or patrol, or a leader is selected (who are not members of dens or patrols directly), then this menu option will not appear.
  • [Pack] or [Troop] This menu will contain commands that apply to your entire unit (either pack or troop, depending on whether this is a Cub Scout Pack or Boy Scout Troop). From this menu, you can get the current roster, calendar of events, and other information. For leaders, you can also track achievements, activities, and other information for all members of the unit.
  • [Blogs] This menu allows you to view any blog you have access to. Click the name of a blog to read it. Click View All Blogs to see a list of all blogs you have access to. If you have been given permission to author a blog, then Add Entry will allow you to write an entry to one of your blogs.
  • [Admin] This menu contains many features for your unit leadership to use. For a non-leader and non-administrator, the only option available here is User Admin. From this menu, you can change your password, select a default member for when you login, change your e-mail address, and select other options.
  • [Other] This menu contains several misc. entries. Notes menu allows you to write notes that are saved with your user account. You can use this to save a TODO list, or comments of things to discuss with your leader, or anything else you want. Links menu shows a list of scouting websites your unit administrator thinks may be useful to members of the unit.
  • [Store] This menu brings you to a store where you can purchase many different scouting, camping, sports, outdoors, books, and other items of interest to scouting families. This store is powered by Amazon.com, and is backed by their reputation and commitment.
